The FAB 5K Challenge Program is a free 12 week running and life skills program, that challenges those who identify as youth girls in grades 6 through 8 to train for and complete a 5K run. Our program combines the power of sport with a goal-setting framework. This provides our participants with an empowering environment that encourages them to become more physically active while developing important life skills such as goal setting and resilience.
The FAB 5K Challenge Program is designed to enhance self-confidence, cultivate peer friendships, and build supportive relationships with our coaches. Our program runs from March to June each year through 10 communities centres in Hamilton. FAB participants and volunteer female coaches meet once a week for 90 minutes. There are also 3-4 events that take place on the weekend (transportation provided).
There is no cost to participate in our program. FAB participants also receive a new pair of quality running shoes, healthy snacks, a FAB t-shirt, and free entry and transportation to all program events and races.
Eligibility
Any person who identifies as a female in grade 6, 7 or 8 and lives within 3km of one of our program locations is eligible to register for our program. We are excited to welcome 135 FAB participants for 2024. Priority is given to returning FAB participants.
Program Location
Please ensure you register your child into a program location. The waitlist should only be used in the event that your chosen location is full. Sometimes we are able to secure additional funding to make more spots available or spots are moved to more popular locations. So if your location is full, please add your participant to the waitlist.
Start Date
The program begins the week of March 25th. First day will depend on which day of the week your location meets. We will meet weekly until the FAB 5k run which takes place on Saturday, June 15th.
