Assaulted Women’s Helpline

Run with the Assaulted Women’s Helpline in support of women experiencing abuse!

For over 37 years the Assaulted Women’s Helpline has provided 24/7 telephone crisis counselling support to any woman in Ontario who has experienced any form of abuse.   Trained counsellors provide crisis counselling, emotional support, information and referrals.

Since the onset of COVID-19, AWHL has seen our annual call numbers nearly double from 50,000 calls answered to more than 90,000 calls answered, while calls on our Seniors Safety Line have skyrocketed to nearly 40,000 per year from 10,000 pre pandemic.   During this period, counsellors have reported an increase in the intensity of these calls as more callers experience a heightened level of violence.  

We recognize how difficult it is for many women to reach out for support.  AWHL works hard to eliminate the barriers that can prevent women from picking up the phone including access to language line services in over 200 languages, online counselling and creating community partnerships.  All calls are anonymous and confidential; we do not have call display. 

The Helpline is dedicated to working towards equality for all women.
