Our story…

My mom, Susan Myers, was an amazing person, mother and Grammy.  When she had a "gallbladder attack" she was confused since she didn't have a gallbladder anymore and went to the doctor to get it checked out. The last thing we expected to hear from her was cancer. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma was something we never heard of until December 2022. Stage 4, no symptoms until it was already too late. It was the size of an egg and smack dab in the middle of every important organ making surgery too complicated. Silent symptoms for months while the tumor was spreading, growing and killing my mother. We were told the statistics and knew it wasn't going to be cured. We knew we were on borrowed time together. 11 months was all we had left together and every time I tried to do something special with her the cancer had other plans. Side effects from the chemo put her in the hospital repeatedly. I watched this unbelievably aggressive cancer that came out of nowhere take my mother away from me and my son, Brayden; he was only 10 months when she was diagnosed and 21 months when she passed in November. She was taking care of him every day for as long as she could.

Cholangiocarcinoma is rare and the most aggressive cancer I have ever witnessed. It's rarity makes it even deadlier due to the lack of research and the silent symptoms. I couldn't do anything to help my mom beat this cancer but maybe raising money for research will help someone else avoid what we had to go through. The torture of watching someone you love and care for be worn down and beaten by cancer is something I wouldn't wish for my worst enemy.
