Help Karen raise money

For participating in The 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

Running the Falmouth Road Race has always been on my bucket list. Each year, I considered signing up, but the challenge of running seven miles always made me hesitate. This year, however, is different. At 46—exactly the age my mother was when she passed away from breast cancer—I’ve decided that it’s time to take on this challenge. When I received the email inviting me to join the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition Team for the Falmouth Road Race, I knew the moment had come. Without hesitation, I signed up to be part of this team.

My mom, Nancy Swift, was diagnosed with breast cancer at 41. For five years, she fought this disease with incredible courage and grace until her death at 46. My sister Laura was 16, and I was 20 when we lost her. I want to honor her memory and ensure that no one else has to experience the heartache of losing a loved one to this terrible disease.

Before she passed, my mom was actively involved with the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC). This organization is dedicated to preventing the environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes in public policy. While many well-funded breast cancer organizations focus primarily on treatment, MBCC emphasizes prevention—something that’s so important to my family and me.

Please consider supporting this vital cause. I’ll see you at the finish line on August 18th!
