My Story…
I am running this race for the first time in honor of my Dad Eric. My Dad died when I was 13 and losing him completely shattered my world. Working as a program coordinator for Empower which supports youth who have lost a parent has been one of the biggest honors of my life. These kids who have lost a parent need people who understand what they are going through to support them and guide them, that is what Empower offers. I also am running for my brother Andrew who I miss immensely and who would’ve loved this organization, knowing how beneficial it is for these kids.
Description
Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2024 Falmouth Road Race!
Empower is an international nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”
Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.
