My Story…
My name is Julia Collette and I am running the 2024 Falmouth Road road race as a part of Team Jett. The Jett Foundation extends and enriches the lives of individuals affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders. I am running for my nephew Walker. Walker was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular shortly after his first birthday is currently 4 and a half years old. He is a reminder to myself to live every day to the fullest. I am running in honor of my nephew Walker as well as my sister Kyla who has shown great strength as an amazing mother to Walker.
Duchenne is a rare genetic, processive, muscle-wasting disease. It is the result of a defective gene responsible for producing the key muscle protein, dystrophin. Duchenne causes the muscles in the body to become weak and damaged, leading to heart and breathing muscle failure, and is ultimately fatal. There is currently no cure.
DMD affects 300,000 boys worldwide and 15,000 in the United states, with most using a wheelchair by around the age of 12 and having an average life expectancy in the mid 20s.
Description
Thank you for supporting me in the Falmouth Road Race, where I will be raising funds for Jett Foundation.
Jett Foundation empowers people and families impacted by Duchenne muscular dystrophy through the development of transformative programming, educational opportunities, and ongoing support for every stage of a Duchenne journey.
Team Jett events, such as the Falmouth Road Race, encourage families and friends to activate their muscles in support of Jett Foundation and the work we do to provide enriching programs for individuals and families impacted by neuromuscular disorders.
Help me reach my goal of $1,000 by race day--Sunday, August 18, 2024!
