Welcome to my 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race Page!
I am running the Falmouth Road Race in honor of my son-in-law, Jesse A. - a Meningioma brain tumor survivor and United States Marine Corps veteran. Jesse suffered the sudden diagnosis in 2021 after symptoms developed at work requiring emergency surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His surgeon removed 95% of the tumor due to location during a 10-hour surgery in the incredible AMIGO Suite. https://www.brighamandwomens.org/research/amigo/integrated-procedure-room-design
Meningioma accounts for approximately 40% of primary brain tumors. With a large number being benign, funding for research many times is redirected toward more aggressive tumor types. In addition, Meningioma tumors recur at a rate of 20%-30% within 15 years. Research funding is needed to better understand the etiology behind occurrence and recurrence, so we can march toward reductions in diagnosis and the development of new curative treatments. Lastly, brain tumor patients live with disabilities beyond diagnosis, surgery, and cure simply as a result of undergoing a brain surgery. Impairments to daily living can have long-term effects, many times invisible to family and friends. Innovation around less invasive treatments, especially for instances when complete surgical removal is impossible due to risk, are much needed. Recent developments are on the horizon, exciting times for Meningioma patients!
I am proud to serve as fundraising catalyst in Jesse's name by running The Falmouth Road Race on this team. I would very much appreciate your support and donation to this cause.
