Help Una raise money

For participating in The 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

The Lurie Center and its impressive network of doctors and resources continue to provide best in class care for Anjan and Sachin.  This year, they came to our rescue when Anjan reached into the toaster oven and got second degree burns on the tops of all five fingers of his right hand.  His Primary Care physician got to work immediately over the weekend, counseling us-we could not use the usual treatments (ointments that Anjan might put in his mouth) or antibiotics (that would ruin his GI system and lead to aggressive behavior)- eventually guiding us to the incredible Karen Turner, MGH autism patient navigator.  Due to his extreme social anxiety, Anjan has been unable to enter a doctor's office or hospital for 10 years.  Karen coordinated a virtual visit within hours with a hand burn specialist and over the computer screen, they were able to let us know there would not be any extensive permanent damage, and give us the instructions on how to care of Anjan.  This is just 1, just 1, example of how they have helped us in crisis, and given us hope over the year, over the years.  We are so incredibly grateful.

Description

All money raised through the ASICS Falmouth Road Race will help fund the Lurie Center's Family Support Team; a consultative lifeline helping patients & families navigate the difficult medical, therapeutic and life decisions related to caring for an individual with autism. Whether it is a question about insurance, educational support, adult services, or a sibling adjustment concern, because of the generous donations collected through this event, the Family Support Team is just a phone call away. They meet one-on-one with families, but also field an estimated 7,500 calls per year, and make an additional 4,500+ follow-up calls.

Autism diagnoses are on the rise. The number of patients seen at the Lurie Center is growing steadily with more than 10,000 appointments during the last year. Unfortunately, less than half of the clinical costs are covered by health insurance reimbursements.

Charitable support is essential for the vitality of the clinic and there is an extraordinary opportunity to double this event's fundraising efforts. Thanks to the Nancy Lurie Marks Foundation, every donation received will be matched dollar for dollar.
