My Story…
Welcome! My name is Mary!
I have had the opportunity to run the Falmouth Road Race three different times and this year will be the second time I get to run for the May Institute. I not only have run this race, many other road races, triathlons, half marathons and three full marathons (Chicago x2 and New York).
My biggest supporter throughout my academic and athletic career was my father, Edward Holland. He not only was a track coach for decades at a high school in Boston, but he was also Head of Special Education at that high school. He taught me the proper way to run and how to get the best possible workout from it. When I graduated high school he retired and was able to put even more focus on family and I am so happy I got to have that from him for so long. Unfortunately, he lost his hard battle with stage 4 lung cancer in October 2019. Luckily, I have endless friends and family (especially my mother, my two older sisters, my two nieces, and my two nephews) that have always been there for me through everything, and I am so grateful to each and every one of them.
I have worked for the May Institute for just over a year now and I absolutely love my job. I started as a Teaching Assistant and as of October 2023, I became the Lead Teacher in my own classroom of 6 students and 5 staff. I am currently in the process of licensure through my master's degree at Bridgewater State University. You can definitely say I am following in my father's footsteps!
I not only work with these individuals in a school setting, but I am also a swim coach for a swim team and a WSI certified swim instructor. I work with a number of individuals with or without disabilities and I can say again that I absolutely love that job as well.
Please consider donating!
There is not donation too small or too big. ALL donations will be directly donated to the May Center School in Wilmington. You will be helping not only my classroom but the five other classrooms too! Have a jar of change that you will never need? I'll take it and come pick it up! Random loose change in a backset cupholder that has an unknown candy substance on it? I take it (well, I'll clean it first)!
Thank you again for checking out my page and considering donating.
Have a great day and run on!
