My Story…
It’s that time of year again 🏃🏼♀️ 🏃🏼♀️ 🏃🏼♀️ 💛
The Falmouth road race has been a special time of year for me my whole life. My grandparents built a beautiful home in Falmouth to hold all ten of there crazy children, who grew to love it here, and passed that down to me and all of my cousins. So as long as i can remember, it has always been a time that brought my huge wild family together. The memories surrounding this day I will never forget growing up as a kid. On Road race Sunday of 2012, I was broken and hopeless, feelings I felt I would never overcome. I left my family that day in emotional turmoil in hopes that this time I could turn it around. Little did I know That day was the first day of the rest of my life. I took a step in the right direction for the first time in a very long time and went into Gosnold treatment facility. Almost 12 years later to the date I live a life I could never imagine.
As a tribute, Each year since, I run and raise money for foundations to help addicts in recovery. This year I chose to run for WellStrong. WellStrong’s mission is to create safe, supportive communities of people in recovery from substance use disorder through fitness, wellness and meditation. WellStrong offers a safe, supportive, sober environment that allows people in all stages of recovery to participate in activities that have been shown to reduce the rates of relapse. It offers a community of peers where people in long term recovery can offer hope and inspiration to those newly in recovery as they train, pose, meditate and breathe together. WellStrong is committed to helping each member create a healthy lifestyle, enhancing the quality of life that leads to a content, successful and sustainable life in recovery.
I run in memory of my “Gam”, I run for the addict that doesn’t have the option to do so, I run for the addict that does not see a way out. I run with the hope that maybe another grandmother, does not have to loose their grandchild to active addiction.
Today, I am not just an addict in recovery. I am a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, a coworker, a teammate, and friend. If nothing else, there is hope that any addict, can loose the desire to use, and find a new way to live. So here’s to second chances, here’s to living, here’s to hope 💛
