My Story…
Hi! Welcome to my Fundraising page. 10 years ago I met Matt, at that time he was a high school Sophmore at Norwood High. If you have ever heard a story about Matt I am sure that you are aware how wonderful this young man is. Despite having his ability to walk, or care for himself taken away at such a young age, he has done more in his life than we can ever imagine doing.
In 2008 I started working for a Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Center and 2 years later I met Matt. While playing for his High School Hockey team Matt went head first into the boards and broke his neck. Everything he thought for his future suddenly changed in that one moment. Despite this, Matt always came into the facility smiling, and ready to go. His determination whether its working out, or graduating college, or starting his foundation has never ceased to amaze me. Matt and his family are wonderful, and I am lucky to be part of their story.
I no longer work for the SCI facility, I decided to pursue Nursing a few years ago, but I have always said and will always say that working with SCI's is my life's passion. Spending 11 years of my life working with SCI clients has given me so much. I have found life long friends who I would never have met. I spent many hours of my life wondering what someone who gets a spinal cord injury is going through everyday. Even being so close with so many people who have a SCI I will never know what it's like to live in their shoes. Imagine not being able to get up and use the bathroom when you want, or grabbing something from the fridge. Jumping in your car and just getting away for the day alone, or driving to your buddies and going out for the night. Coming home from the hospital and you can't get to your bedroom because it's on the second floor, or the bathroom isn't big enough to get your wheelchair in, and forget about taking a shower because you can't stand in the stand up shower. These are things that all of these people now have to think about, and then the cost to renovate these homes is many times not feasible. This is what Matt is trying to help with!
I am so excited Matt asked me to run for his foundation. Since he started talking about this dream years ago, I have always wanted to find a way to contribute in some way. Please help me reach my fundraising goal, and let's help Matt continue to help others!
Thanks,
Lisa. :)
