Welcome to my 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race Page!
On August 18, 2024, we will be running the 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race on the Gray Nation Endurance team in support of the National Brain Tumor Society. The National Brain Tumor Society is close to our hearts for all the work they do in raising funds for treatment of brain cancer. Please consider reading our story below and donating to our team.
On 9/14/23 Josh had a seizure while making dinner. He was immediately taken to BID Plymouth and then transferred to BWH ICU for a brain mass. Josh underwent emergency brain surgery three days later and the doctors successfully removed 80% of the tumor from his right frontal lobe.
It took six weeks to get the final biopsy results to confirm the tumor was cancerous, a grade 3 Oligodendroglioma. Josh was fortunate the tumor had specific genetic markers that qualified him for a new treatment via a daily pill (Rx: vorasidenib), rather than traditional radiation and chemotherapy. This pill will hopefully prevent further tumor growth and Josh can keep being Josh. If there ever comes a time the pill stops working, Josh will undergo chemo and radiation.
He started treatment early-December and his body has responded well to the daily medication. No side effects and no further tumor growth.
An oligodendroglioma is incurable, Josh will always have cancer. Moreover, he still has residual tumor in his brain. This is our reality.
Josh is currently stable and back to work. He is being followed closely by Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. He has monthly appointments, with a brain MRI every 8 weeks to monitor for tumor growth.
Living with cancer is challenging. In our early 30's we did not expect this to be our life, but we continue to take it one day and one scan at a time. It’s all we can do, in addition to raising funds for treatment/cure.
Exercise is one thing that helps both us physically and mentally. It has been a core part to our recovery. So what better way to honor this journey than by doing what we love, running, and raising funds for the National Brain Tumor Foundation.
Thank you everyone for your continued support! Please consider donating to our fundraising team. Your funds will go to further research into life saving treatments and care for those impacted by brain cancer.
