My Story
Running gives me the ability to focus, it calms my anxious thoughts, it allows me to give up on trying to figure out what other people are thinking. My favorite time to run is before the sun comes up, and my favorite place to run from is my own house. This is where the biggest challenge comes. I cannot just leave my house at 5 a.m. and go for a run by myself. I mean, I could do that, but when I do, the entire time I’m out there, I’m running scared. Watching taillights, listening for cars, afraid they’re going to turn around, fearful of other pedestrians, worrying about the potential dangers that might be lurking in the shadows, thinking, if I’m attacked, my friends will say, ”She shouldn’t have been running alone. If she carried a gun, she could’ve defended herself. What was she thinking? I thought she was smarter than that.” It’s those thoughts that destroy my reasoning behind the run. The thoughts exist because it happens. It happens to women all the time, and it happened to Vanessa Marcotte during the day in Princeton.
I’ve applied, and been selected to run the Falmouth Road Race for the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation, and my goal is to raise $1,500 for the cause. A female, who is a person, should be able to leave her house as comfortably as other people do. And in all honesty, as I typed that last sentence, I said to myself, “Could that EVER happen!?” In my opinion, the mission of the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation makes it more possible than not. My wish is that you support this mission with me, and donate your dollars for the cause.

Every 68 seconds, someone in the U.S. is assaulted.
Please support my charity run for the Vanessa T. Marcotte Foundation. Together, we can help create a safer world. The Foundation works to decrease objectification and violence, and to promote safety awareness and gender equality. It furthers its mission of empowering women to live boldly and fearlessly by providing vital resources, personal safety training and educational opportunities, as well as through partnerships with like-minded organizations to address the root causes of violence against women.
