Support. Inspire. Empower.
Falmouth Road Race brings a very special joy into my life. Every year I'm dreaming of running along the coast on beautiful, hot summer day with likeminded people. This year I'm running for HERREN PROJECT: Addiction Recovery Nonprofit Organization, which provides treatment placement assistance, sober living & recovery coaching, consultations and resources for families.
My personal story: I had an older brother, he was nine years older and as I remember he was a very sweet kid. My best memory of him was his " shadow puppets theater" which he performed for me before my bedtime. He was using light, hand and a wall to create different characters. His stories were sometimes spooky and sometimes funny.
Recalling my memories of him today, I realized that he had undiagnosed mental issues and started to self medicate in very early age. He ended up using heroin and committed suicide at the age of seventeen. I was eight years old and remember how his death completely destroyed my parents and permanently changed my family.
This October he would turn sixty, if he would be alive. He was dreaming to become a seaman like our dad. He told me that he will be a Capitan on a cruise ship. Maybe he would get married and have a family, maybe him and I would be close and spend time together... but instead I grew up as an only child watching my mother crying every day. Addiction took his life away.
I'm going to run this road race in memory of my brother and I would like to ask you to help me to raise money for these people who struggle with this horrible disease and to support their families.
Thank you for your donation, Dr. Vitaliy Volansky.
