My husband Brian, and son Niko, were both diagnosed with T1D (type one diabetes) at age 3. This has in turn forced them to grow up quicker than most. Normal toddler challenges went from learning how to share to now adapting to countless finger pokes, injections and device changes each day in order to stay alive. While I’m grateful for all the advancements in research that have made living with this disease more manageable, I look forward to a day when T1D involves even less struggle and a healthier future for both them and others. Inspired by the resilience of my husband and son who tackle the challenges of diabetes daily, I am honored to be running the Falmouth Road Race this year for team JDRF!

Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page!
I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
