My Story…
Well, I just completed a 3.3 mile run and have concluded,( in my little mind), that I can finish another 7.1 mile Falmouth Road Race on August 18, 2024 in support of The Hannon Foundation. (My feet, ankles, knees, hips and lungs are yet to be convinced).
Before I talk about The Hannon Foundation, let me tell you about my friend Ted Hannon, who, unfortunately, we lost a few years ago.
Ted grew up with me in The Mount, ( Quincy,MA). He had attentive caring parents, too many siblings to count, and a tight group of loyal friends growing up. He met and married a wonderful person, his wife Laurie, who enjoyed a similar up-bringing.
As a result Ted had tremendous work ethic and strong sense of loyalty. He and Laurie worked hard to support their young family. They worked even harder to found and grow their own business, Hannon Electric, that in turn supported their many loyal employees and their growing families. And with typical Irish Guilt, Ted and Laurie decided that was not enough, and that there had to be a way to support and help out even more people.
So Ted, Laurie, their kids, and their loyal employees started The Hannon Foundation. The Hannon Foundation works all year long, through several fundraising events, to raise funds to support various working men, women and families who find themselves faced with illness or some other loss that makes it difficult to meet their day to day basic needs. For more on the Hannon Foundation please visit their website.
So once again this year I plan to get my out of shape old self out of bed early on race day and put one foot in front of the other until I finish, just as many hard working people do every day to support their families, despite their aches and pains and individual personal challenges. And if I stumble or fall along the way, I trust there will be someone who will take me by the elbow, help me up, and point me back toward the finish line. Just as my friend Ted would do, and just as The Hannon Foundation does for working families every day.
Thank you for any support you can give to The Hannon Foundation.
Description
A local 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Hannon Foundation Inc. was formed to assist families in eastern Massachusetts who are in financial crisis due to a parent’s loss of employment, or a family member’s medical condition. Our goal and our mission is to help our community one family at a time.
Our 2015 golf tournament was the inspiration for creating the foundation. The tournament was held in support of the 2-year old son of a friend who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. The money raised at that tournament allowed dad to take time off work to be with his son during chemotherapy, scans and transfusions, and to spend time with the rest of his family. There are stories like this everywhere, and we were inspired to keep going.
This will be our sixth year participating in the Falmouth Road Race, and our fifth as an official nonprofit organization. We invite you to read about our beneficiaries and other fundraising events such as The Hannon Open Golf Tournament, the Ted Hannon Memorial Sporting Clay Shoot and the Ted Hannon Texas Hold Em tournament on our web site: https://www.thehannonfoundation.org/
Thank you for taking the time to visit our page. If you are not in the position to donate this year, we would appreciate your help spreading the word about our organization. Every little bit helps!
