My Story…
Hi, friends and family. I am running the Falmouth Road Race again this year in support of a great cause.
Epilepsy affects nearly 3 million people in the United States, and 50 million people worldwide. As many of you know, my sister has epilepsy which can present challenges during pregnancy and motherhood. This is why I am raising funds.
Women with epilepsy face a variety of unique challenges, particularly concerning reproductive health. For instance, during pregnancy, the body’s ability to metabolize anti-seizure medications changes, increasing the risk of seizures.
Emma P. Voinescu, MD, leads the Women’s Epilepsy Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is revolutionizing the treatment of women with epilepsy during pregnancy and the early postpartum stages. The program’s interdisciplinary team, which includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, obstetrician-gynecologists, neuropsychologists, and psychiatrists, brings specialized expertise and extensive experience in women’s epilepsy.
This expertise is critical to advancing the care of pregnant women with epilepsy. Emma and her team have made significant discoveries, including that women with focal epilepsy experience higher rates of worsening seizures during pregnancy compared to women with generalized epilepsy.
Philanthropic support is vital to advancing Emma and her team's life-saving work at the Brigham. I would be honored if you would support my run to help secure these funds to support the future of women's healthcare.
Now, bust out those credit cards again and support an amazing cause!
