My Story…
Join me in supporting Girls on the Run!
Remember the mandatory 1-mile run in gym class? For me, as a sixth grader, this was my first introduction to running. I can recall being the first girl finisher in my class and beating out most of the boys. While I certainly felt a burst of competitive spirit upon completing that run, I can now recount this experience as one of my first memorable moments in building self-confidence as a young girl. Fortunately for me, months later, a high school cross country coach started a team for middle schoolers, and I found an amazing outlet in running to grow that confidence, learn about sportsmanship, and experience the possibilities thanks to dedication and hard work.
A few years ago, I was introduced to Girls on the Run Greater Boston—a program that inspires young students to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence through running. Programs are available through many after school programs for individuals in 3rd through 8th grade, opening new experiences to gain confidence, care, connections, and more while also unlocking their superpower—celebrating what makes them unique—and topping off each season with an inspiring 5k!
I am running the Falmouth Road Race with Girls on the Run Greater Boston to raise funds that will provide scholarships and support for more young girls in the region to gain this experience. Thank you for joining me in supporting this amazing cause!
Description
Girls on the Run is more than a running program. Through GOTR's program, trained coaches implement the research-based curriculum that builds lifelong healthy habits. Girls learn the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of physical activity, as well as tools for navigating the challenges of adolescence. Each season concludes with a 5K event where the girls run at their own pace, giving them a sense of achievement and a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
