OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!
In late 2015, I was heart-stricken when I learned that my former wife, Dorothy - the mother of my children - had been diagnosed with ALS. Yet, for many months after her diagnosis, Dorothy showed little outward sign; her illness was progressing slowly. At a family cookout, she pulled me aside. Looking around at our extended family, she said, “Mike, they still haven’t accepted what’s going to happen. They still have Hope.”
Hope! If only there had been a viable treatment; if only there had been a miracle cure in the pipeline, then there could be reason for hope.
For Dorothy, there was no hope. She passed away in 2021. But, I believe there is a future in which ALS patients survive and their families can have hope! Running the Falmouth Road Race on the ALS ONE team is a chance for me to be a part of that future.
