Help Tova raise money

Welcome to my personal Breakthrough T1D fundraising page! I will be running the Falmouth 7 mile road race in Massachusetts. I will dedicate a mile to the first 7 people to donate. All the names of my donors will be written on my singlet. 

I have joined Breakthrough T1D to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help Breakthrough T1D fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

I chose to fundraise for T1D to support the people in my life affected by the disease. Two people I want to highlight are my Dad and a student in my class. My dad had the Whipple Surgery in 2013 which saved his life and prevented him from getting pancreatic cancer. My dad wears a portable pancreas which he controls to pump insulin to his body to digest food. Recently, my student was diagnosed with T1D.  Although the disease is life changing, this student is resilient. He chooses to move forward with his daily activities and embrace the modifications. 

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

Breakthrough T1D is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar Breakthrough T1D is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

The challenge I have set for myself — to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and to race — is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
