My Story…
In 2020, I lost my brother Levi, one of my best friends, to suicide. Levi was someone who lived life with an infectious zeal, finding joy in all things outdoors. He had a loving, gentle nature but also had a playful side, often getting competitive and always finding ways to make those around him smile with his infectious laugh. He was also known for always having never-ending candy wrappers in his pockets, a sign of his sweet tooth.
Levi had a strong faith even as a young kid, and he was always willing to be a friend to anyone. He was the best brother, teammate, and friend anyone could ask for.
One of my favorite memories of Levi is the day I found him secretly in our backyard, assuming no one was home, with a stray cat he had taken in. He named the cat Chico, and now Chico is a spoiled member of our family—a testament to Levi’s caring and compassionate spirit.
Our team name, "37 Legacy Crew," carries deep meaning. The number 37 was Levi’s jersey number in volleyball and baseball, and it serves as a constant reminder of who he was. It's a number that my family often sees by chance, reminding us of Levi's presence in our lives. The number 37 is also associated with new beginnings, making it a fitting symbol for our mission to raise awareness for suicide prevention and to run for life.
Levi's loss profoundly impacted me and led me to pursue a degree in psychology, a journey I am now entering my third year of. My goal is to better understand the struggles that people like Levi face and to help others find hope and healing.
As I run this race, I do so to honor Levi’s legacy and to raise awareness for suicide prevention—a cause that has become deeply personal to me. I believe that together, we can make a difference and help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartache.
I invite you to join me in this effort. Your support will help carry on Levi’s legacy and contribute to a future where mental health is better understood and supported. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to that goal.
Thank you for helping me honour Levi and for supporting the Centre of Suicide Prevention in Calgary. 💙💙💙
