Race information
Essential Details:
A 5K race and 2-mile walk sponsored by the Coalition for a Safe & Healthy Elgin (CSHE)
8 am on April 20, 2024
Runners and walkers begin together
Location:
Begins and ends just north of the Gail Borden Library (270 N. Grove Avenue) on the Fox River Trail. A water stop will be available for the 5K runners at the turn-around point near the Trail and Cedar Avenue. Walkers will make their turn at the base of Spring Street (brick road). The course is relatively flat with a few short inclines.
Route:
Free parking in the northeastern portion of the Gail Borden library lot.
Restrooms available within the Gail Borden Library.
Price Structure (fees are designed to defray costs):
$5 for walkers/runners’ age 19 and under
$20 for walkers' adults 19 and up
$30 for runners’ adults 19 and up (Prices increase to $35 on March 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM)
Adults are encouraged to run/walk with their children
The registration company will add a small service fee
Registration online by 11:59 PM April 19. There is NO REGISTRATION on race day morning.
Perks:
A free dri-fit T-shirt for all that register online by the end of the day on April 1: XS, S, M, L, and XL. Sizes will not be guaranteed from April 1 on.
All registrants receive a finisher medal.
Trophies for the overall male and female winners.
Pre-Race Day Packet Pickup:
Pre-race day packet pick up as well as in-person registration will be available on Friday, April 19 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Greater Grace Community Church, 991 Deborah Avenue, Elgin. You can also pick up your packet on race morning starting at 6:30 AM.
Timing and more:
Racetime.info is providing a gun-timed race, all runners will be able to access their finishing time online after the race.
Post-race refreshments served near the start/finish line.

We are a local Coalition made up of community members and critical sectors in our area addressing underage drinking and substance use among minors.

The purpose of this race is to raise awareness of youth drug prevention efforts by the Coalition for a Safe & Healthy Elgin.
CSHE promotes a safe and healthy community for our youth, free of substance misuse through education, prevention and action.
Running is a great pastime for young people that assists in their pursuing a healthy life.
Sneaker Recycling!!
Runners are encouraged to bring used sneakers to the event for recycling--the proceeds support local young running groups. Please bring your sneakers to packet pickup or the race. For more information visit: https://gotsneakers.com/.
