My Story…
This year I will be running my 2nd Boston Firefighters Memorial Road Race 10k to support the Boston Fire Department Relief Fund. This race has become very special to me, as I run to honor my Papa, Jack Doyle, who was a firefighter for the City of Boston for over 30 years and battled with cancer for many years.
Statistics show that firefighters are more than twice as likely to develop cancer compared to civilians, and in Boston, 67% of firefighters will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. The Relief Fund has a mission to "put out cancer in the Boston Fire Department" and all the proceeds from the race will benefit their cancer and cardiovascular screening initiative. This initiative covers the cost of cancer screening tests and subsidizes the cost of cardiovascular screening tests for members of the Boston Fire Department.
Any little bit helps and is so appreciated. Thank you for your support!
