Tips for Fundraising
So, you've signed up for Steps for Kids now what?
1. Get the Ball Rolling
- Be the first to donate!
- Share your personal connection to Children's Mental Health when making your donation. This will inspire others to join & support you.
- Starting early gives you enough time to generate interest from friends and family members.
2. Get your Fundraising Page in Tip Top Shape
- Before asking for donations, ensure your page hits the mark!
- Upload a photo and use a catchy name that includes a call to action like "Join in" or "Step up for kids."
- Set a challenging yet attainable goal to motivate your team.
3. Start with Your Closest Contacts
- Ask your family and closest friends for donations first. Getting your “inner circle” to donate to your page will help you build up some momentum.
- Text your coworkers, friends, and distant family members, as well as anyone else you know. When someone shares your fundraiser with their network, it helps you reach more people who might not hear about it otherwise!

4. Expand Your Audience with Social Media
- Use various social media platforms to reach different audiences.
- Tag and thank your supporters on Instagram and Facebook to spread the message further.
- Always add a link back to your fundraising page for easy donations.
5. Share the Impact of a Donation!
- It feels great to know how your support helps out – here are some great examples.
- A gift of $25 buys a pair of pajamas for a youth that may come to Safe Haven Youth Services with only what they are wearing.
- And if you have a goal, a great way to showcase how bigger gifts will support Lutherwood is:
- $300 supports a two-night stay at Safe Haven Youth Services, $500 supports a week of healthy lunches for the kids in our school program, $1000 provides a child access to specialized treatment to address their mental health challenges.
6. Follow Up
- Keep your supporters in the loop with a text message or posts on Facebook or Instagram!
7. Keep the thanks coming
- Keep thanking your supporters on social media and share your progress toward your goal.
8. Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
- Enjoy the process!
- Fundraising is an opportunity to connect with others, share experiences, and make a difference. Celebrate the small victories along the way!
Together, our little steps will make a big impact!
