Hey! We're Michael and Hailey!
We know we're different than your usual host for the introduction to the race, but this year we're doin' something…so let's get into it.
This is our FOURTH year of Crushing Cancer, and our fourth chosen Cancer to crush. Each year Mom picks a new cancer to focus on, with an attachment to our family.
While we're beyond happy to celebrate the people in our lives, us, and Mom's race helpers have been telling her to pick her own cancer. (We won't lie and we'll tell you that it's been said before to 'Get it done and over with")
This race was not started by Mom to highlight herself, but to highlight the people around her, the things they dealt with and either conquered or did not. Community over self.
This year, we change that. Our Honoree is the creator of this race herself, Our Mother, Jeanne. Mean Jeanne, the Wicked Witch of West Vanburen, Gaga, and many other names we maybe don't say to her face(love you)
Mom was diagnosed years back with Uterine Cancer, went through many treatments, rocked a bald head, and came out on top. As we all knew she would. Mom's a pillar to many of us, and this time in her life allowed all of us around her to become pillars for her.
This showed Mom she was not, has never been, and will never be alone. We're lucky to have her around. We know the "inner circle" was around for most of this, especially when we couldn't be there, Michael was in Utah, Hailey was/is in Vermont. This is something we as her children cannot thank you all enough for.
We're mostly behind the scenes of this, and Mom is always up-front. We're happy to have her to celebrate, to be a Grandma, a sounding board, someone to call when ancient women are looking at you weird in the grocery store because you have shorts on in December. The three of us girls share our life, Mom shared everything she could with all of us during her cancer years.
Let's share this year with her, raise some funds in honor of this incredibly short woman we all love to have in our life, run a race, buy some basket raffle tickets, go to trivia nights and whatever dinner things we have planned, most importantly, let's celebrate this woman whose years long struggle with cancer shaped her but didn't change her.
Show up and Show out.
Oh, yeah, this year we're raising funds for a local non-profit that helps improve the healing process of life changing illnesses, helps patients, caregivers, and their families (see community) as chosen by Mom. Peaceful Remedies, right here in Oswego!
