Big Darby Creek Trail Scramble is a 12-hour, 8-hour, and 4-hour team relay and solo ultra, run along the Battelle Darby Creek trail system (we promise some of the best views of the metro park and the Big Darby Creek). Run as a solo ultrarunner, or get your fellow trail-running friends for a 3-person or 5-person relay team. (There is no 5-person relay division for the 4 hour duration)
Big Darby begins at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, June 8 during a beautiful Ohio June sunrise, continues through out the day, and finishes at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening as the sun begins it descent to the west along the Big Darby Creek. Don’t miss this unique and incredible running experience.
Event Description
The course is a 4.1 mile trail loop that starts and finishes at the Indian Ridge grounds. Runners, Hikers, and Ruckers may opt to run, hike or ruck continuously throughout the duration, or take an extended break in between laps.
The loop will consist of the exterior track, gravel, and grass and includes the Ancient Trail and forested Terrace Trail. The course is runnable, non-technical and is flat except for a .20 mile climb and total elevation gain for the course is 195 feet.
Finishing results are determined by finishing your prescribed (4-hour, 8-hour, 12-hour) race. Finishers amenity will be awarded to all who complete their chosen duration race. The Top finishers will be based on number of laps completed and overall time to complete the accumulated laps. Participants that do not complete the entire race would be considered DNF and not award eligible.

- King of the Mountain - Hour 6: Fastest time by a solo male up the .20 mile climb
- Queen of the Mountain - Hour 6: Fastest time by a solo female up the .20 mile climb
- Fastest Loop - Male and Female: Hour 8: Fastest 4.1 mile loop by a solo male and female in hour 8
Race Fields
- Individual (Solo). Solo runners will run the 4.1 mile course continuously throughout the duration, or take an extended break in between laps. At a point runners may declare their race over by notifying race or timing team. Laps and completion time accumulated to that point will be considered the finishing time. No partial laps will be counted. The final lap for each race must be completed must be completed under the prescribed time to be counted toward the total accumulation.
- Duo Running. Ideal for those who don't want to run alone and want to take on the race with a friend. Each athlete receives a time but must start and finish each lap together.
- Relay Teams. A Relay team member will run the 4.1 mile course and then the next relay member will start next lap. A relay team member can run as many laps as they wish before handing off to the next team member. Relays teams do not have to keep a set order for each runner and can change position during the race at the designated transition location. Laps and time accumulated to that point will be considered the finishing time.
Relay Exchange
Relay exchanges will be made in the Relay Transition Area at the Start/Finish. On-deck runners will wait in the Relay Standby Area or at their tent for the incoming runner, exchange the timing bib, and then crosses the timing mat. No exchanges can take place on the course or any location other than the Start/Finish area.
Drop Bag Area
Runners will have a designated area at the Start/Finish for a drop bag, tent, chairs, cooler with food/fluids, additional gear, etc.
Crew Support
Runners may receive crew support only from the Start/Finish area. Runners receiving crew support from any other area may be subject to disqualification.
Pacers
Pacers are not allowed.
Leave No Trace
To minimize trash on the trails, Big Darby Trail Scramble is a 100% CUP-FREE RACE. Paper cups will not be available at aid stations. All runners will be responsible for carrying their own refillable hand-held bottle or hydration system. Any runner found intentionally leaving cups, gel wrappers, or other trash on the trail will be disqualified.

Timing
All participants are timed. Each lap is timed and time is accumulated for solo runners and as a team. We utilize the MyLaps timing system for timing and scoring.
Transfers, Refunds, and Injury Deferral
There are no refunds or transfers permitted. Injury deferral request will be honored until April 10 or 60 days prior to event. Injury deferral request must be made via email prior to 11:59 pm on April 10. Injury deferrals after this date will not be accepted. The event does provide RegistrationShield registration insurance as an optional purchase during the registration to cover injuries and other health matters preventing participation.

Aid Stations
The course will be supported an aid stations at the Lap Start/Finish.. The station will be stocked with various hydration products- Water, Gatorade, and soda, along with first aid kit, bug repellant, sunscreen, and Vaseline.

Runner Safety
All runners should follow general safety precautions as one would take while training on trails in remote areas.
Course Terrain
98% of the course is ran on dirt and pasture land trail. Expect loose and uneven surfaces. This terrain can be of further challenge if conditions are wet.
Weather
All runners are expected to be prepared for any weather condition and the race will continue on rain or shine, except in the event of hazardous weather condition such as lightning. Runners in the vicinity of either the Start/Finish area or near Indian Ridge Picnic are will not be allowed to progress further until it has been determined safe to resume. Runners on course should take necessary precautions.
If on the course and not near shelter, immediately descend to a low dry point. Do not shelter under a tree. Remove metal objects and packs and separate from other runners. Crouch down with both feet together, breath, and patiently wait out the storm.
Wildlife
Runners are required to respect the wildlife by not approaching, feeding, or harming wildlife. Race participants observed violating this are subject to race disqualification.
Medical Needs
EMS and medical support will be on call for the event. The medical tent is located at the Start/Finish area, and aid stations will have basic first-aid supplies. Runners experiencing a medical emergency on course will need to go to the nearest aid station, timing checkpoint, or report the emergency to a passing runner. Medical evacuations will only be reserved for serious or critical medical needs such that the injured party can not physically move under their own ability.
Heat Exhaustion
Temperatures in June can be high, humidity levels high, and collectively can increase the heat index. We will monitor the heat index and temperatures but it is important that you hydrate before, during and after the event. Do not start another lap if dehydrated or without replenishing fluids both internally and in the fluid you carry. There will be ice available at the Start/Finish area for cooling (not for your water bottles). Depending on the heat index, cooling rags will be available at the Start/Finish area.
