Founded in 2011, Artists at Play’s mission is to tell the stories of the diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. We provide resources to artists who give voice to our past, present, and future, and consistently spend the majority of our annual budgets on artist stipends and salaries. Often described as small but mighty, we are one of a few nonprofit theatre organizations in the Greater Los Angeles area dedicated to creating opportunities for theatremakers of color, with a focus on emerging playwrights, actors, directors, designers, and stage managers.

With the support of our community, we’ve produced stories that explore the humanity and complexity of the Asian American experience. Your support through the LA AAPI 5K is an investment in bringing new Asian American and Pacific Islander narratives to the canon of American theatre and championing artists who are creating thoughtful stories for AAPI communities.

When you support Artists at Play, your contribution goes towards:

  • Creating opportunities for the artistic development of underrepresented theatre artists
  • The development and commissioning of new plays by emerging AAPI writers
  • Providing livable artist wages for actors, designers and artists across the board
  • Producing high-quality World Premiere productions by AAPI playwrights
