Welcome To Xenia Information Sheet
Though a small city in southwest Ohio, Xenia, the “City of Hospitality” is a great place for athletes. Featuring miles of bike trails (perfect for race walkers) and Athletes in Action, an international organization that focuses on developing athletes and coaches as leaders of influence, on and off the field.
The Athletes in Action Sports Complex is located at
1197 S. Detroit Street Xenia, OH 45385Google Maps will direct you to the sports complex entrance on S. Detroit Street. You’ll see the large sign and yellow gate. Follow the drive past the baseball and softball fields, until you see the football field and track to your right. There is a parking lot next to the football field / track.
Note: There is construction just beyond the football field / track entrance. The construction zone is gated off. For your safety, DO NOT enter the temporary construction gate.
(We are in the process of building a field house- set to open in June!)
Restrooms: There is a single porta potty at the track.
A short walk from the track, between the softball and soccer fields, there is a building with a green roof. On the other side of the building is a restroom with running water.
Lodging: The Athletes in Action campus includes dorms for convenient lodging. The cost is $90/ night for a two-person room and $105/ night for a suite (two joined rooms with a connected bathroom) These can be booked by emailing Monica.Gorman@athletesinaction.org. If you have questions, she can be reached at 937-352-1049. Mention that you are here for the race walk.
If staying in the dorm, drive to the Athletes in Action office building. 651 Taylor Drive
Xenia, OH 45385
Other area lodging includes:
● Hampton Inn & Suites 194 Progress Dr. Xenia, OH 45385
-
● John Allen House Bed & Breakfast 209 E 2nd St. Xenia, OH 45385
-
● Xenia Country Inn and Deerfield Inn are Xenia’s “budget options”
Food, Groceries:
Xenia has everything you need in terms of grocery stores (Kroger, Aldi, Wal-Mart) and restaurants. My favorites for a nutritious meal are OneBistro, Coffee Hub, Sweet Boutique, and Bob Evans. For a hearty post-race meal, explore Nick’s Restaurant, Los Mariachis, Taku Japanese Steakhouse, or Roosters.
Where can I do a workout?
-
1) Bike Trails
Xenia is the hub of Greene County that features miles and miles of bike trails. Flat and long, they are perfect for race walking. You can park at Xenia Station (150 S. Miami Ave), just one mile from the track. If you’re staying in the dorms, you can jog down the hill, exit the front entrance of the Athletes in Action campus (Home Ave.) , cross Home Ave, and begin your workout on the path that runs parallel to Home Ave. -
2) If you’re staying at the Hampton Inn, walk right behind the building, past Taku and Penn Station (restaurants), across Hospitality Drive. There’s a fitness path that goes around the YMCA. It’s race walk friendly and almost one mile in length.

3) The Track
Prior to race morning, feel free to drive to the track. If the large yellow gate is open, you are welcome to enter. Our sports complex schedule is busy in the spring and fall, so call Joel ahead of time if you wish to use the track prior to race morning.
Travel
Dayton International Airport is the closest airport to Xenia (about 35 minutes). Columbus (CMH) is one hour away and Cincinnati (CVG) is a little over an hour.
