2024 Trillium Spring 5K

Tedy’s Team started in 2005, after Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke at the age of 31. Tedy was in the prime of his life. He had just won his 3rd Super Bowl as a member of the New England Patriots and just returned from his first Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Tedy and his wife, Heidi, did not know the warning signs of stroke and were unaware his symptoms were stroke related.

When Tedy’s Team was created, the main goal was to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of stroke, and to break the stigma of who can have a stroke. Then it grew to an endurance training team when Tedy was able to secure five bibs from the Boston Athletic Association for the Boston Marathon^® as a member of their charity program. The focus of the team was still awareness, but through the running team, Tedy’s Team helped to fund life-saving research.

Fast Forward 19 years, over 2,000 alumni, numerous running events and Tedy’s Team has raised over $9 million to support stroke and heart disease and help reduce deaths from stroke. Since Tedy’s Team was created, stroke has gone from the nation’s No. 3 killer to No. 5. While there is still more work to be done, we can see the impact of what we do on a daily basis.

In 2019, Tedy’s Team created a new community outreach program, called the Comeback Assistance Program, that will help give survivors the means for a comeback. If you are interested in more information, please visit our Comeback Assistance Program page. If Tedy can have his comeback, so can you!

In 2023, Tedy’s Team partnered with the MGH Institute of Health Professions to create the Tedy’s Team Center of Excellence in Stroke Recovery. The mission of the Center is to improve the quality of life for stroke survivors through advances in interprofessional clinical practice and education, clinical research and scholarship and implementation science. The Center will also advance the community’s knowledge of the warning signs of stroke through community outreach and education.

Not local to Trillium? We also have the option to participate in the Trillium 5K virtually! Virtual registration includes a bib, Trillium branded running hat, and shipping.

Do you allow dogs? Due to municipal licensing and zoning regulations we are unable to allow dogs at our Canton location, with the exception of trained service animals.

Can I run with a stroller? Yes! We encourage you to get out there with your family! If you are running with a stroller we ask that you line up in the back to avoid collisions with runners.

What is the minimum age to run? There is no age minimum to run the 5K; however, we also offer a kids Fun Run for kids up to 10 years old!

Am I required to raise $300 to participate? No. While we encourage you to raise as much as you can in support of Tedy's Team, there is no fundraising requirement. Tedy's Team has created some really great fundraising incentives, though!

When will I receive my race kit? If you signed up to run with us virtually, we will send the race kits out in April. If you are running in person, you can pick up your race kit on one of our pre race pick up dates or the morning of the race.

Can I pick up my bib number early? Yes! We will be hosting two pre-race bib pickups. Thursday 5/9 at our Fort Point location from 5-7pm and Friday 5/10 at our Canton location from 5-7pm.

If I can not make it to one of the pre-race bib pick ups, can I pick it up the day of? Yes. Registration will begin at 8:45am the morning of the race and you can pick up you bib and race kit!

If I picked up my bib and race kit early, do I need to arrive early to check in? No. You will not need to check in when you arrive; however, we recommend showing up early to secure parking and be ready for race time

Where should I park? The main Trillium parking lot will be closed for participants. There will be signs directing you to the parking lots next door at Tufts

Are donations to Tedy's Team tax deductible? Yes. Tedy's Team is a registered 5012c3 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and all donations to Tedy's Team qualify for a tax deduction.

Are donations to Tedy's Team refundable? No, donations to Tedy's Team are not refundable. Exceptions are made for when a person accidentally hits donate twice instead of just the one time. Please contact Elizabeth@tedysteam.org if you have any issues.
