UBCO Cross Country and Track and Field Team

The UBCO Cross Country and Track and Field Team currently have 40 student-athletes who compete in middle distance and distance events on the track, road races and 8 km cross country races.

Last year their women’s team was 2nd at the Can West Championships (all the BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba universities).  Joanna Brown won the race and was named Canada West Athlete of the Year, and Lauren McNeil was 2nd winning Rookie of the Year.

They are coached by Malindi Elmore who was awarded the Women’s Team Coach of the Year in 2021. They are looking forward to defending their podium performance this fall and also competing both their mens and women’s teams at the National Championships in Halifax in November.

Last year the women’s team finished 8th in the country and they had 2 athletes in the top 6. They are currently raising funds to extend their team competition from cross country by building an indoor track and field program - funds will give opportunity for athletes to travel and compete.  The team is non-profit and relies on support from the university, donors and fundraising.
