for The Runners Shop "Longest Day" Ekiden Relay Race
Due to restrictions put in place by the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority at Tommy Thompson Park, we can accomodate a maximum of 35 teams.
To spread the love around a little I ask that you enter no more than 3 teams from one club.
What the heck is an Ekiden Relay
An Ekiden relay is a long distance running team event. There is always a ceremonial tasuki sash involved that the runners pass on to symbolize the teamwork (and sweat !) An Ekiden relay can be any distance. In our version each team will be (collectively) running the distance of a marathon. But fear not! The load is shared, and 4/6 people on the team are running at once. So it's over real quick. World record pace!
How it works
- Each team is made up of 6 people. On each team two people will need to run 10k, three people will run 5k and one person will run 6.2k
- Your two 10k runners and two of your 5k runners will start. The remaining 5k runner and 6.2k runner will wait for a tag from the first two 5k runners.
- The 6.2 k runner will wear the Tasuki sash, as this runner is most likely to be your finishing runner. We'll provide you with the sash and a decorating station to personalize it!
**Please remember that Tommy Thompson Park does not allow dogs. If someone is coming to watch they have to leave the dog at home.
How to register
- The team will need someone to start things off, creating the team.
- The captain can then register just themselves or the whole team. The rest of the team just needs to go to the registration page, find the team, and join it!
- You will need to predetermine who is running what distance. There are three 5k's, two 10 k's and one 6.2 up for grabs. It's not sealed in stone (yes you can make adjustments) but please try and make it as accurate as possible. It gets chaotic to be making lots of changes for 35 teams, as you can imagine.
