MASTHEAD CHALLENGE
MILITARY ONLY!
Welcome to the 2024 Navy Bike Ride | Bienvenue au Défi Vélo Marine 2024
NBR 2024 will once again include a military-only ride. The Masthead Challenge will act as a way to bring together all members of the Royal Canadian Navy, from overseas, or anywhere in the world to work together in supporting a great cause. This challenge will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2024. The Challenge is divided between Ships, Shore Establishments, and Naval Reserve Divisions. There will be two prizes awarded this year. Prize one will be awarded to the unit with the greatest number of participants who ride a 100 km or more and a second prize will be awarded to the unit with the most combined kilometers from their top five riders. An amount of $1,500.00 will be awarded to the ships funds of the winning Shore Establishments, HMC Ships and Naval Reserve Divisions for a total of $3,000.00!
To participate in this challenge, find your ship, NRD, or Shore Establishment in the sign up page and start riding! Make sure you tell your shipmates about the challenge and make it a fun event to get some money into the Ship's Fund. And if you don't know what the Ship's Fund is, you can talk to your HOD or CHOD and they will give you the scuttlebutt!
This year you are not able to purchase an NBR Jersey through the MASTHEAD CHALLENGE portal. If you would like to purchase this years jersey, please head to the public portals and you can purchase your Jersey there.
About us
To many, the connection between the Royal Canadian Navy and cycling may not be an obvious one. Cycling has long been a tradition as it can be difficult for a sailor to stay in shape when they are deployed onboard a ship for months at a time. Very few warships have a large enough space to dedicate to a gym, however a stationary bicycle is compact enough to squeeze into tight spots all over the ship.
Many sailors in the Royal Canadian Navy are avid cyclists and dedicated athletes. As we keep our naval ships in fighting shape, our sailors must also focus on their own physical fitness. The Navy Bike Ride is an opportunity to highlight that commitment to health and wellness.
Interested in fundraising?
The Navy Bike Ride is not just an event, but a cause that encourages the well-being of our communities and families, whether it be through physical or virtual events, motivating and helping each other to be healthy through cycling, or even making a difference for others who need our help. Designed as a fun, family friendly event, the Navy Bike ride supports three organizations dedicated to the well-being of the RCN’s current and former sailors and their families, with proceeds going to the Royal Canadian Naval Benevolent Fund, Support our Troops and Soldier On. |
