This is a super fun fall Halloween race in a lovely setting! Four distances to choose from, so the entire family can participate and enjoy this stunning path in our area.
* Haunted Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
* Terrifying 10K (6.2 miles)
* Frightening 5K (3.1 miles)
* Monster Mile Walk
The courses are protected from traffic - safe and scenic! All races begin and end at Abshire Park, 1302 East Lincoln Avenue, Goshen, IN.
If you like running with beautiful scenery, this race is for you. Held at a lovely county park in Goshen, Indiana, on a rails to trails course, called the Pumpkinvine. This is one of the major nature attractions in our area, so if you are not familiar with the Pumpkinvine trail, this is a treat!
* Courses: All routes are on paved or cinder paths, completely protected from auto traffic, except at the specific trail crossings.
We will have volunteers and police at the crossings to stop auto traffic. All courses are out and back, so you will see your running pals for extra energy. There are also several water stops and several porta potties on the course.
The Mile course will go north on the Pumpkinvine trail from Abshire Park, on a paved path, in an out and back course. This is not a timed course. There will be volunteers at the turnaround for each distance.
The 5K course (3.1 miles) is a northbound out and back on a combination paved and cinder course . There is one porta -potty on the route.
The 10K course (6.2 Miles) is a northbound out and back on a combination paved and cinder path. You will get to a section where there are cornfields on both sides of you! Two porta potties along the way.
Half Marathon (13/1 Miles)- You will love the energy you get from seeing the rest of the field as you return on the same path. Ok, there are 2.5 "hills" on the course. Two porta potties along the way, so four opportunities to stop.
Race fee includes chip timing, (Mile walk is not timed) custom shirt- while quantities last, and finisher medals for everyone,
Results: Results will be posted as soon as possible. Awards will be held as soon as our registrants will be in.
Start: We will do a staggered chip start to spread out the field on the path beginning with the half marathoners, then 10K, 5K and finally the one mile. Please leave with your group/ distance and follow your leader to the start.
We will line people up on one side of Lincoln, stop the traffic, and then you have about 10 yards to run before you cross the timing mat to start your chip time.
This also is helpful so that people are not accidentally walking across the timing mat at the start.
Share the road: Since this is an out and back, so we ask that if you are walking, you envision an imaginary line splitting the path in half.
It is fun to see your friends on the course! And, it's impossible to miss a turn and get lost! You will never be alone on the course!

Dog Policy: Dog Safety First
We love dogs and know that for many people, dogs are family. They do add a lot of joy to events! We love having dogs participate.
Dogs are more than welcome to join in if:
* They are properly trained for the distance and will enjoy it!
* They are up to date on all shots
* Have experience in crowds and will not be fearful or aggressive towards others
* Your lead line will not impede other runners
Note: this is not a" puppy training event" to see how they will do in crowds.
However, just like family- please note that having your dog MIGHT impact your performance. Just like having a child with you who is having an off day, your dog might be having an off day and slow you down. Or you might need to avoid other dogs, if your dog is larger/smaller. Dog safety and happiness comes first!
Everyone planning to run with their dog will “register them” at packet pickup (no charge) and get a bandana for their dog to wear. Questions? Contact Paula@StoneSoupPromotions.com.
Our Mission
Our mission with this race is to raise the awareness about Down Syndrome and to make sure that new families know there are resources available to help with all the questions that arise with having a child with unique needs.
This is the major fundraiser for the Elkhart County Down Syndrome Support Group to provide scholarships for tutors, therapeutic riding and some social activities for almost 70 families in 2024 with special needs kids in our immediate area. Please come out and support this effort.
Volunteers
If you are not a runner, or you are a runner and have a loved one who wants to support you- we always need volunteers! Course monitors, registration, refreshments, and set up and tear down.

More Race Details
Packet pickup and registration is Friday, October 25, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm at the Abshire Cabin in Abshire Park, 1302 East Lincoln Avenue, Goshen, IN.
Race day pickup and registration is Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 6:30 - 8:00 am
Heads up on Parking!
Parking on race day will be in multiple lots close to the park. Please allow extra time for this. There is not enough parking at the Park itself, so we will be at neighboring businesses and churches within a quarter mile of the park along Lincoln, as well as Mt. Joy Mennonite Church. Follow the parking volunteers directions.
* You might want to bring a flashlight/headlamp on race day as the sun rises around 8:15 am.
* Boy Scout Troop # 12 will be there to show you where to park- as they have for the last eleven years~
* Restrooms: We have two indoor restrooms at the race start, with several porta pots in the park. There are two porta pots along the course.
* Historically, it has been crisp in the high 40's to low 50s on race morning- pretty much PERFECT running weather.! You might want to wear a "cast-off" top to the start and drop it at the first water top like they do at larger races. Volunteers will collect clothing on the trail on their way back in with the signs.
* We try to do awards as soon as possible after the race and we may modify the ceremony to keep the crowd levels down. If you have to leave early, let us know- you can always have a friend pick up your award!
* Please don't litter along the course. If you must discard a Gu packet or clothing, please do so at the water stops so we will see it to pick it up.
* Consider bringing a camp chair to set up for the post race activities, if you prefer not to sit in the grass This can also be your spot where you store post race sweats.
* Time limit: Our timer will be in place until noon. If you are not sure if you can complete the course by then, you might consider starting earlier. We want everyone to participate who would like to. Please contact us if you have questions on this.
