Our first trail race of the 2024 season will take place on the Cape George Heritage Trail system in Antigonish County. Come see why they refer to this area as the Mini Cabot Trail. Centrally located to bring out the best from the Mainland, Cape Breton Island, New Brunswick and PEI to battle it out in the Highland Heart of Nova Scotia.
We have two distances that are sure to challenge you in all ways. Our "Little Cape" is just shy of 10kms (9.25) with 300+ meters of elevation gain. Race takes off from the North Shore Volunteer Fire Hall on Marsh Rd, before starting the grind towards the finish line at the top of Cape George peninsula next to the UNESCO lighthouse overlooking St. George's Bay. Participants can expect a mix of dirt roads, logging roads, ATV trails and the majority being technical single track. You'll cross some beautiful ridges, pass by a waterfall, and be rewarded to some of the most stunning scenery that few get to experience.
Our "Big Cape" 24km (23.8) is dishing out over 900+ meters in elevation gain. If you're looking ahead to some big, nasty races this season...this might be the perfect training run to see if you can cut it. Runners will take off from the Firehall in the opposite direction to experience 14 grueling kms with steep climbs, sharp switchbacks, quick descents dropping into river valleys, all on some single track. 4hr cutoff will be enforced back at the firehall before proceeding onto the last stretch of the "Little Cape" course.
$5 from each registration will be going to the North Shore Development Association who work tirelessly to keep these trails maintained for all users to enjoy.
This will be a manually timed event with generous cutoff times . Our trail family can expect water drops throughout the course, two aid stations on the course, well-marked trails, along with the party atmosphere at the start and finish lines. Prizes will be awarded for both Men's and Women's podium finishers for both distances. All runners will receive an entry into some great raffle prizes thanks to our partners.
Please note: Merch cutoff is May 25 2024.
No dogs are allowed on the course during the race, but are more than welcome at the Start/Finish line.
**There will be no refunds or deferrals for this event. You can drop down your distance on race day should you choose, but no credit will be granted. Registrations can be transferred to another person up till June 10 2024 through Race Roster for $1.95 plus the processing fee. Limited parking will be available at the finish line, but shuttles will be provided hourly from the Lighthouse to the fire hall.
