About NWI POP on Violence
In April 2008, Dr. Mike McGee, Chief of the ER, founded Project Outreach and Prevention (POP) on Violence program after witnessing an increase in teenage violence in the Methodist Emergency Department consisting of blunt trauma, as well, as penetrating (gunshots and stab wounds) trauma. In 2012, he partnered with Dr Reuben Rutland, Chief of Trauma and a fellow member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, to develop a 501c3 Not-for-Profit Organization to further expand the benefits of this program. POP Foundation was created as an outreach effort to target youths in NWI and the Chicagoland Area.
We want to open a relevant dialogue with the community about the long-term effects of impulsive violence and how we can replace these incidents with more examples of positive interaction.
Our Mission
To prevent and alleviate teen violence while inspiring optional career choices and promoting healthy lifestyle choices and positive behavior.
Our Vision
The vision of the P.O.P. Foundation is to provide outreach services, educational seminars, as well as, college and career readiness opportunities. We encourage healthy lifestyle choices by working with active community partners to create a safe, fulfilling and academically enriching environment.
Our Purpose
Partnership with Methodist outreach program, marketing dept, Methodist Trauma Team, and Northwest Emergency Associates ER Group to target teens at risk. Trauma designmation status requires prevention outreach initiative programs such as these.

Race Timing
We use a disposable chip timing tag for the 5K that runners receive at packet pick up on their race bibs. It is lightweight and remains attached to the race bib.
Runners MUST wear their race bibs on the front of their clothing in order to be timed accurately. The bib cannot be covered, holding it in your hand or putting it in your pocket will NOT read the chip. Do not bend the chip. Smart watches such as Garmin and smart phones can interfere with the timing chip frequency. Please do not adjust your watch or phone as you cross the finish line and come through the chute. Disputes for times on Smart watches and smart phones will not be taken into consideration.
