My Story…
I will be participating in the San Francisco Aloha Run for Peace on Sunday, September 15th! This event is dedicated to uniting our community against war, hate, and racism. The theme, Aloha Run for Peace, highlights our collective effort to foster peace and compassion.
The proceeds raised from this event will support three incredible organizations:
• JCYC Scholarships
Believe Scholarship: The Julie Matsueda Believe Scholarship will provide a long-term commitment to selected preschool participants to be a partner in their journey towards adulthood. Awardees will receive a funded as well as annual contributions to a 529 college saving account, free/priority access to JCYC programs, and individual college advising.
Excellence Scholarship :The JCYC Excellence Scholarship supports High School Seniors who have committed to post-secondary education. Excellence scholarship are awarded to participants of JCYC programs and amounts are based on financial aid provided through other sources.
Pathways Scholarship: The JCYC Pathways Scholarship seeks to encourage families of our younger JCYC participants to start saving early for their child’s path to college. Families will be awarded scholarships to deposit into a ScholarShare account, which is a state-sponsored, 529 college savings account.
Thomatra Scott Scholarship: The Thomatra Scott Scholarship Fund was established to support JCYC’s Black & African American youth on their path to higher education. Awardees are selected based on their alignment with “Scotty’s” values of education, human rights, and racial justice
• Partnerships for Trauma Recovery: is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses, forced displacement resulting from war, persecution related to identity and beliefs, gender-based violence and other forms of interpersonal violence. PTR offers culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and linguistically accessible care for asylum seekers and refugees worldwide.
• United Playaz: is a violence prevention and youth development organization that has been active in San Francisco for 25 years. Located in the SoMa district, the UP Clubhouse provides a safe and positive environment for youth to grow. The dedicated team members share similar backgrounds with the youth they serve, operating on the belief that communities thrive from within. Their goal is to offer a consistent ‘home’ that many of their kids lack in other areas of their lives.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant impact and help these organizationscontinue their vital work.
