Why We Run
The proceeds from the Pink Pumpkin events will be donated to cancer care service programs at Marshall Medical Centers. The main beneficiary of the Pink Pumpkin proceeds will be the Mammography Assistance Program (MAP) at Marshall Medical Centers North and South. Through the funds provided from MAP, women who cannot afford a yearly mammogram are offered assistance. Often the concern over the loss of income because of the time away from work or the lack of transportation or gas money prevent women from having this potentially life-saving test performed on an annual basis. Through MAP we have the ability to overcome these obstacles for many women. We also run in honor and memory of loved ones who have fought the battle with cancer.
Course Descriptions
5K Course (USATF certified - AL22040JE): The 5K walk/run will begin at Guntersville's Civitan Park, travel northeast along Sunset Drive/LB Wallace Drive and return to the Civitan Park by way of newly renovated downtown Guntersville. The course is mostly flat with a couple of slight inclines and runs adjacent to beautiful Lake Guntersville. Aid stations will be located at the halfway point.
10K Course (USATF CERTIFIED - AL23033JE): The 10K course will start at the Guntersville Rec Center and travel northeast along Sunset Drive/LB Wallace Drive and return to the Civitan Park by way of Gunter and Blount Avenues. The 10K course runs through Downtown Guntersville, featuring the Whole Backstage Theater, the Guntersville Museum and the Guntersville Library. The 10K course is mostly flat with a few inclines. A water and aid station will be located at the Chamber of Commerce, Bancorp South and at the finish line. All 10K runners will need to pick up their bib numbers at the Civitan Park prior to the race.
The 1 Mile Fun Run will begin at the 5K start, run to LB Wallace Drive and back. It is not timed, but the first three male and female finishers will receive an award. Rehydration & snacks will be available before and after the races. Afterward, participants can enjoy the popular Pink Pancake Brunch - a crowd favorite!
