The Tour de Thorncliffe is back for 2024 with ambitious targets and exciting prizes.
A collaboration between the Thorncliffe Park Autism Support Network (TPASN) and the Women’s Cycling Network, with support from organizational partners The Neighbourhood Office, Gateway Bike Hub and Cycle Toronto, this annual event raises money to provide free summer camps for children with special needs.
The camps have been hugely successful and welcome both children with and without neurodevelopmental disorders, a practice that builds awareness, understanding and acceptance. TPASN’s Dr. Shakhlo Sharipova notes, “There were free camps in the city but none were open to children with special needs.”
Each year the demand for these camps increases and the need for families is great. We invite the community and local businesses to help raise $20,000 to fund the camps in the Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park and Taylor Massey neighbourhoods. Every dollar donated makes a difference.
With your help, we can:
- provide a free camp experience for 70 children who will benefit through physical and social activities, the calming benefits of being out in nature and developing healthy habits.
- hire qualified educators, one-on-one personal assistants for the children with high behavioural and sensory needs
- purchase materials, provide breakfast, lunch and snacks as well as bring in entertainers who specialize in working with kids with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
