Can i wear headphones whilst participating in the event?
RaceME has adopted a lenient stance of allowing non-competitive runners to use music players and cell phones, but at the same time we urge all runners to rather run without music, and if you insist on running with music, rather run with the volume turned down, or with just one earplug in place. Of course, very few runners with MP3 players actually heed this advice, and while this usually does not cause too many problems in road running – except for making some runners a bit anti-social – it is a growing problem in running in the UAE.
Bottom line: Running with music is more risky for your safety and can cause other runners frustration, but if done carefully and with consideration for others, you can still run with your favorite tunes. Just ensure the particular event allows it, and very important, make sure you do not start singing along to your favorite tunes. Especially if you don’t have a great singing voice!
Please note it is still a disqualification offense to run with music, earphones, headphones or any other type of device impeding your hearing through the race.
