Coogee Island Challenge
Spring Ocean Swim
The Coogee Island Challenge (spring edition) is the second ‘cut of the cake' for swimmers looking to take on this epic Wedding Cake Island ocean swim, with its spring equivalent having been held in November last year.
This swim offers the perfect opportunity to circumnavigate Wedding Cake Island, a renowned rock reef just offshore from Coogee Beach in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, providing a stylish and challenging end to the ocean swimming season.
The event features three ocean swim distances: an 800m Junior Dash for our youngest competitors, a 1km course within the relative safety of the bay, and the 2.4km main event for those aged 13 years and over. Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or new to ocean swimming, this event promises an unforgettable experience.
This November, and to coincide with National Skin Cancer Action Week, we’re proud to partner with Skin Check Champions and the Melanoma Institute Australia to provide free skin checks and promote sun safety throughout the event. Swimmers are at a sixty times greater risk of being diagnosed with melanoma compared to the average Aussie, making it essential for all of us to take sun safety seriously.

The 800m ‘Junior Dash’ is an event for ages 10-12 and follows a circuit course around a set of buoys inside of Coogee Bay to take advantage of the calm conditions.

1km Splash n Dash Closed

The 1km ‘Splash and Dash’ is encapsulated within the surf-free waters of Coogee Bay as well, just venturing out a little further than the juniors. This swim is perfect for beginners or those experienced ocean swimmers wanting a warm-up for the Challenge later in the morning.

2.4km Coogee Island Challenge Closed
Online registration closed-
One lap circumnavigating the famous Wedding Cake Island. Starting at the north end of the beach, swimmers will head out past the northern headland to swim clockwise around the island. Once around the back, buoys will mark the course straight back to the beach, this time finishing in the middle of the beach to a roaring crowd lined up along the beach and promenade.
