The GKC Links HBCU Walk/Run

Saturday, October 12, 2024 marks the 7th annual HBCU Walk and Scholarship Fundraiser sponsored by the Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Since 2016, we have raised scholarship money for Kansas-City metropolitan area students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) around the United States. This endeavor is in honor of our member Yvonne Houston, an alumna of Florida A&M University, whose love for her HBCU inspires all of us to uplift and continue her legacy.

While participating in events held or sponsored by the Greater Kansas City (MO) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated (The GKC Links), consistent with CDC guidelines, participants are encouraged to practice hand hygiene, “social distancing”, and wear face coverings to reduce the risks of exposure to COVID-19. Because COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is spread mainly from person-to-person contact, The GKC Links have put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, The GKC Links cannot guarantee that its participants, volunteers, partners, or others in attendance will not become infected with COVID-19.

By participating in this event, I acknowledge and understand the following:

Participation includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19. While particular rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist;
I knowingly and freely assume all such risks related to illness and infectious diseases, such as COVID- 19, even if arising from the negligence or fault of the Released Parties; and
I hereby knowingly assume the risk of injury, harm, and loss associated with the activity, including any injury, harm, and loss caused by negligence, fault, or conduct of any kind on the part of the Released Parties.

Race Policy

Safety of our participants is our top priority. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the Race Directors, in communication with the local law enforcement and the City, may delay the event or cancel the Run/Walk.

The event may be delayed or canceled due to a Tornado Warning, Tornado Watch, Thunderstorm, Heavy Rain, or any extreme weather condition. Light to moderate rain is not considered an Adverse Weather Condition.

If the event is cancelled more than 12 hours before race start time, we will notify participants via the race website, email, and social media. If the event is cancelled less than 12 hours before the race start time, we will notify participants via the race website and social media. Participants will be notified via email where they can pick up their race packets if they have not already done so.
