Equestrian riders can earn a commemorative certificate, and a chance for more prizes if they ride 144 miles in one year.

Annapolis County is proud to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Pony Express.
Why 144 miles? For nine months in 1849, royal mail steamers brought dispatches of news from Great Britain to Halifax. Two riders and 12 fast horses rode the dispatches 144 miles to Victoria beach, Annapolis County Then a chartered steamship carried the news across the Bay of Fundy to Saint John where it was telegraphed to New York.
