Our story…
My name is Amy St John, and in 2022, just before I turned 18, I was diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin lymphoma (Nodular lymphocyte-predominant). I underwent four rounds of chemotherapy at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and thanks to their incredible care, I am now 21 and have been in remission for just over three years. Those months were the hardest of my life, and the experience changed everything—my outlook on life, my goals for the future, and how I carry myself every day.
Running has become a powerful part of my healing journey. It helps me process what I went through, clears my mind, and gives me strength on difficult days. On October 26th, I’ll be running the Niagara Marathon to raise funds for Childhood Cancer Canada, the country’s only national charity dedicated entirely to helping children with cancer and their families. Donations support critical pediatric oncology research and clinical trials, as well as provide direct support to families throughout their cancer journey.
Running this marathon is both a personal milestone—proving to myself that I can overcome hard things—and a way to give back, so that other kids like me can have the best chance to fight, heal, and chase their dreams.
