Official registration is open March 1 - March 31st!
Hike, walk, or run 5k anywhere, at any time to support The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation!
The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation is dedicated to funding the ongoing research needed to find treatments and a cure for Tay-Sachs disease. Since starting Take A Hike Tay-Sachs as a virtual 5k in 2019, the event has raised over $75,000! Putting on this fundraiser is a labor of love in memory of Grayson Rainier Kemp, who passed away from Infantile Tay-Sachs Disease at the age of five.
How to Participate: Register and get moving! Whether it's hiking, walking, running, biking, or some other movement, our goal is for participants to raise funds to find a cure while also doing something healthy for themselves and spreading awareness of Tay-Sachs disease. You get to decide when, where, and how to get in your 5k (no reporting to us)!
Registration Details: Official registration ($35) runs March 1 - March 31. Register early to make sure you get a race packet that includes a 2025 Take A Hike Tay-Sachs shirt, small microfiber sports towel, and event sticker! Supplies and sizes are limited.
Race store: Check out our race "store" (see right side bar)! For your additional donation (the "price"), we'll thank you with the corresponding item. By providing this additional support of the fundraiser, you spread more awareness each time you use your thank you swag! This year we have women's tanks, youth shirts, & insulated camper mugs! NOTE: Swag from the store page is sent separately from your race packet and will come after you've received your race packet. Please keep in mind this event is primarily run by a working parent and just a handful of volunteers, so please be patient.
About Tay-Sachs: Tay-Sachs disease is a rare neuro-degenerative disorder in which deficiency of an enzyme (HexA) results in excessive accumulation of certain fats in the brain and nerve cells. This leads to progressive dysfunction of the central nervous system. A baby with classical Infantile Tay-Sachs appears normal at birth and typically continues to develop normally for the first six months of life but then development slows. As the disease progresses, affected children will have gradual loss of vision and hearing, increasing muscle stiffness/restricted movements and seizures, eventual paralysis, and deterioration of cognitive processes. It is fatal during early childhood. YOU can help find a cure.
Social media: Please post photos on social media with #takeahiketaysachs and tag us! You can find Take A Hike Tay-Sachs on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! The more you share, the more you're helping raise awareness! Awareness leads to funding, which leads to research, which leads to a cure!
