My Story…
While recovering from surgery in my hospital bed in June of 2017, my doctors who made early morning rounds that Saturday were all dressed in running shorts and shoes, not their usual scrubs. My inquiry about this different attire led to my introduction to the Colorado Gynecological (formerly Ovarian) Cancer Alliance of Colorado and Jodi's Race, its primary fundraiser. That next year (2018) I joined the Race and was uplifted by the positive camaraderie of all the participants, sponsors, and volunteers. I was specifically inspired by those women who wore 20+ strands of teal colored beads, each strand representing one year of survival, and I vowed then to be one of "those women" someday. Now, as a very fortunate 8-year survivor of ovarian cancer, I meet and interact with others each year at Jodi's Race, and in doing so, hopefully encourage others, newly diagnosed, to be hopeful and strong in their cancer and recovery journeys.
