Six years ago, my older brother, Jeff, died at the age of 27 from a rare form of cancer.

Jeff was an amazing man to say the least.

Shortly after losing him, I began routinely jogging as a form of therapy. In October 2019, while jogging along the Hamilton escarpment, I saw a sign for Wellwood's Walk Run Wheel event that said, "Help Kick Cancer's Butt."

I couldn't help but feel this was a figurative 'sign' calling me to get involved and help those in our community who are living with cancer. So, I joined the event, and I loved it.

I have participated in the event every year since, and through the incredible support I have received from family and friends, we have collectively been able to make a real difference for Wellwood and the people they serve.

After a few years of participating in the Walk Run Wheel, I had the privilege of joining Wellwood's Board of Directors. This role has given me a front-row seat to witness the extraordinary community that rallies around Wellwood and the people it serves. I've seen firsthand how donations translate into real support — counselling sessions, support groups, wellness programs — that help people navigate one of life's most difficult journeys. It's deepened my understanding of why this work matters so much.

Carrying forward Jeff's Legacy

Jeff's legacy was one of kindness, purpose, and love. He taught me how to be humble and measured. He demonstrated patience and thoughtfulness. He showed me what it means to be a good man.

I am running in this event to carry forward Jeff's legacy.
