DEFEND YOUR TURF.
Turf Wars is Tone House’s annual athletic challenge in which athletes compete in 10 events relevant to the Tone House training program. These events consist of an assortment of endurance, strength, and agility movements, as well as a surprise “Wild Card” event unique to the typical Tone House regimen. Individual event champions are deemed as the “Man and Woman of the House.”
Individual, Doubles (2), and Team Gauntlet (4) options are available for competitors of all fitness levels. Division winners receive medals + prize packages from our event partners, and Individual champions receive a $1,000 cash prize.
All competitors receive a full adidas apparel + footwear kit (value +$500!)
TRAIN LIKE ATHLETES. COMPETE LIKE ATHLETES.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to not only train like an athlete, but showcase their athleticism and hard work in an athletic competition that tests their mental and physical barriers.
THREE REGISTRATION TYPES:
- INDIVIDUAL | Take on all 10 events solo
- DOUBLES | Split the events with a Teammate (M/M, M/F, F/F)
- TEAM GAUNTLET| Teams of 4 will race the clock completing all 10 events for time (M/M/M/M, F/F/F/F, M/M/F/F)
DOUBLES - One Teammate will complete 4 events, the other will complete 5 events. Teammates will declare which events they are competing in prior to event day. No switches on Game Day unless medically necessary. Both Teammates will complete the Wild Card.
NEW IN 2025: TEAMS OF 4 | GAUNTLET - This is a race-to-the-finish style relay event, with one clock for all 10 events. Each team of 4 athletes will face off in a continuous, running-clock format no breaks, no resets. The goal: complete all 10 events in the shortest time possible. This is not your average relay. It’s a hybrid test of speed, strength, and endurance. How well you move — and how well you strategize as a team — determines the outcome.

The competitors can not move once the line judge says “set.” Competitor can break the plane with any part of their body across the finish line.
2. THREE SPRINTS (DOWN & BACK x3): The competitor must wait for line judge to blow the whistle to begin the race. If the competitor false starts they are DQ’d. The competitor must start behind the line. No part of competitor’s body can be touching the line. Competitor can be in a standing or in a sprinters starting position. The competitors can not move once the line judge says “set”. Must touch bag with hand and starting line with foot at each end of the field. Competitor can break the plane with any part of their body across the finish line.
3. BACKWARDS UP DOWNS (DOWN ONLY): The competitor must start with both feet behind the start line. The competitor must start with a jump backwards and must jump off two feet simultaneously throughout the event. The competitor must land with chest, stomach and hips touching the ground on each drop down and can only push off with both hands simultaneously. The competitor cannot walk their hands back to their feet or stagger step their feet when landing. Multiple steps backwards in between jumps are not permitted. The maximum amount of steps is one inch during the transition into the next drop down. Competitor must touch line at each end of the Turf with feet.
4. GALLOPS (DOWN & BACK): The competitor must wait for line judge to blow the whistle to begin the race. If the competitor false starts they are DQ’d. The competitor must start behind the line. No part of competitor’s body can be touching the line and cannot move once the line judge says “set.” The competitor can not take a running start into the gallop and must travel with both hands AND both feet landing simultaneously (no bear crawls). The competitor can stand up mid-gallop, but can not advance forward in any manner. TIME CAP: 2 minutes 30 seconds. Competitors not finished in the allotted time will have their scores documented as 2:30.
5. RUNNERS (DOWN & BACK x2): The competitor must wait for line judge to blow the whistle to begin the race and if the competitor false starts they are DQ’d. The competitor must start behind the line and can be standing before they begin, but must have both hands on the Valslides and they must be on the turf before crossing the start line. The competitors can never stand up in between the turnaround points (may stand during turnaround). They can drop to their knees ONE TIME ONLY (5 seconds max) but cannot make any forward progress down the turf. Dropping to knees more than once will result in a DQ. The palms of the competitors must be touching the padded side of Valslide at all times and if palms are lifted from the Valside you will receive one warning. The second warning is automatic DQ. Competitor must cross lines at both ends of the turf with feet. TIME CAP: 4 minutes. Competitors not finished in the allotted time will have their scores documented as 4:00.
**2025 CHANGE!**
6. 500M ROW: Competitor must be seated the entire time and can stop to recover during the 500m row but cannot dismount the rower as that will result in an automatic DQ. The competitor must complete all 500 meters and cannot restart if they fall off of seat. The competitor can only restart if there is an equipment failure (broken screen, broken seat). TIME CAP: 3 minutes. Competitors not finished in the allotted time will have their scores documented as 3:00.
**2025 CHANGE!**
7. ECHO BIKE: TOTAL BODY Max calories in 1 minute (Arms & Legs.) Competitor must stay on the bike the entire minute. Score is total calories registered at the end of 60 seconds.
8. SANDBAG CLEAN & PRESS: Max reps in 90 seconds. Men: 100lb sandbag, Women: 60lb sandbag. Two phase movement: each phase must be completed in order to have each rep count. The competitor must start from the standing position with sandbag on the ground and hands off of the bag. Once the start whistle is blown, the competitor most keep both hands on the sand bag at all times. Competitor must bring the sandbag up to the “racked” position with fully extended hips and knees to complete the clean. The press is not complete until elbows are locked out and elbows behind the competitor’s ears. Sandbag must touch the ground before beginning the next repetition.
9. SLED PUSH (DOWN & BACK): The sled must start behind the starting line and the competitor must push the sled entirely through each line in order for the laps to count. If competitor does not cross the lines they are DQ’d. Arms must be locked out on both low and high pushes and competitor can never drop to their knees. If this occurs they are automatically DQ’d. Competitor must always have two hands on the sled. The competitor may stand up, drop to knees or lose contact with the sled after they cross a line at the turn-around point on the Turf. When returning back to the starting line competitor, must have both hands on the sled and arms locked out. TIME CAP: 3 minutes 30 seconds. Competitors not finished in the allotted time will have their scores documented as 3:30.

FAQs:
Q: Can I compete in Individuals and on a Gauntlet Team?
A: Yes, the Team Gauntlet division will take place after the Individuals / Doubles competition ends. The person who creates the Team Registration will include your info as one of the Teammates. Payment can be worked out amongst Teammates.
Q: Will we receive individual event scores in the Team Gauntlet division?
A: No, your only recorded score is your finish time at the end of the last event. Movement standards and transition rules will still be strictly enforced.
Q: How can we split up the events in the Team Gauntlet division?
A: For events 1-5 & 9, two athletes max may split each event, switching only at turnaround lines. You may choose & strategize which athletes take each event. For events 6-8, all 4 athletes may split the events how you see fit.
Q: Are the Gauntlet events the same as Individuals & Doubles?
A: The movements are the same, but the distance is greater on some events to better split evenly between Teammates, as seen in the list above.
Q: How do we win the Gauntlet?
A: The fastest team finish in each division (Men, Women, & Mixed) will be declared the winner. Winning Teams will receive medals + prizes from our event partners.
