Who We Are, How We Serve
The Cuba Township Food Pantry provides local residents in need with an opportunity to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and bakery products for free. The monetary, food and household products donated by local residents, businesses, and organizations are made to the Cuba Cares Fund, a 501c3. Monetary funds are used for Cuba Cares to purchase grocery gift cards for monthly distribution to recipients, as well as purchasing staples including eggs, milk, and butter each week.
The Cuba Cares Fund partners with local grocers, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and the Diaper Bank Partnership of Lake County for products.
The Food Pantry is overseen by a Township Food Pantry Coordinator and run primarily by a dozen dedicated volunteers who sort products, determine weekly distributions and assist residents with their weekly shopping.
Folds of Honor
Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled Military and First Responders.
Folds of Honor is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator and platinum on Guide Star, that provides educational scholarships to the families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces.
Our educational scholarships support private education tuition and tutoring for children in grades K-12, as well as higher education tuition assistance for spouses and dependents.
Founded in 2007 by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional and F-16 fighter pilot in the Air Force Reserves who served three tours of duty in Iraq, Folds of Honor is proud to have awarded approximately 35,000 scholarships in all 50 states and some US territories, including over 5,700 in 2021 alone. For more information or to donate in support of a Folds of Honor scholarship, please visit www.foldsofhonor.org
If you want to go the extra mile 😉 consider setting up a fundraising page and encouraging others to donate to help you reach your fundraising goal.
Even more fun, setting up and fundraising as a TEAM is a great way to fundraise and support Folds of Honor. Please consider gathering a team of colleagues, family, church family, and/or friends to form a team. For a company, this is a fantastic team-building event!
The top individual fundraiser and the top team will be recognized at the event!
Setting up your page is easy! Below are detailed instructions on "how to" set up your own customized fundraising page.
Personalize your fundraising page
1. To get to your fundraising page, sign into your race roster account (how you registered for the race)
2. Click “Menu” and select “dashboard”
3. Find the fundraising section and select “Edit page” (if you are team captain, there should also be an option the edit the team page)
4. A new window will open, complete the requested information.
a. Add your display name
b. Set a goal: Set your goal. People are more inclined to donate to help you reach a goal, so make it at least a little higher than you think you can raise. You can always change it later.
c. Tell your story: Why are you running and raising funds for Folds of Honor? Check out Folds of Honor’s website for additional information and text to use in your story.
