My Story…
Growing up first-generation and low-income, I know firsthand the obstacles that come with this experience. I knew I would always go to college because that was the path that my parents instilled in me, but without that guidance, I know I would have felt lost like the many other first-generation/low-income youth JCYC serves. My work as an Educational Advisor at James Lick Middle School has broadened my insights on how best I can support today's youth. I have met students as young as 13 who immigrated here from different countries with the hope of becoming a lawyer, a psychologist, a dentist, a veterinarian, a writer, a singer, or an inspiration to other youth. Many of these paths can be fulfilled by pursuing higher education, which is exactly why donating or supporting Aloha Run is so powerful. All funds will be allocated to our scholarship fund, which awards students aged 3 to 18 with monetary awards to help them pursue higher education without worrying about the costs.
