My Story…
In the spring of 2022, I began visiting the IWK’s Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain Clinic — the first in Atlantic Canada. After years of unanswered questions and persistent symptoms, I felt truly heard for the first time. Over eight months, I received compassionate, multidisciplinary care that ultimately led to a recommendation for surgery. In February 2023, I underwent a laparoscopy, cystoscopy, and hysteroscopy. These procedures confirmed a diagnosis of stage 1 endometriosis — a few deposits with no organ involvement, but still enough to significantly impact my daily life. While the diagnosis was validating, it also marked the beginning of a new chapter of learning how to live with and manage a chronic condition. Thanks to the team at the IWK, I finally had answers — and a path forward. I now advocate for improved access to timely, specialized care so that no one has to wait years for the support they need and deserve.
